Monique joined Carla’s Dance Factory in 2000 when her family relocated from Valdosta, Georgia, where they lived for six years after relocating from Canada. She has been an integral part of the adult dance program and dances with the Showstoppers Performing Company. Monique’s daughter and her nusband Carey performs such musical/dance roles as Santa Claus, Grandpa, Will Rogers and the infamous Austin Powers. In addition to their individual roles they also team teach Ballroom dancing at the studio. They regularly attend the Stardust ballroom dance club just to keep their skills crisp. Monique attends the yearly Southeastern Tap Explosion, and has taken classes at the Broadway Dance Center and attended the Pulse and Broadway Dance Center’s Teacher Workshop in NYC in 2007 and 2008. She especially loves taking classes with Avi and Ofer a tap dancing duo in NYC that teaches many of the tap masters routine. Monique has adapted their warm up routine into her own tap warm-up.
This past season she has become involved with the Southside Theater Guild assisting with props, choreography and made her stage debut as “Patsy Price” in the hilarious Christmas Belles production. She has been chosen to choreograph the summer production of “Snoopy’ and she is very excited about this new endeavor. Monique and Carey are hoping to develop a “Broadway Dance Kids Program” at the studio next year introducing students to the art of theatre, song and dance.
Monique’s many other talents include interior decorating, faux painting, sewing and working exclusively with small children as an occupational therapist. She loves teaching and we are thrilled to have her as a friend and part of the Dance Factory faculty.
